2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

Bridge research to practice:
To advance by 2012 the state of research and evidence of HIV/STIs risks through outline of comparable risk behavioural indicators among vulnerable groups and to bridge findings to effective HIV combination prevention.

3. DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

The epidemiological and behavioural HIV/STIs surveillance and qualitative research among SWs, IDUs, STI-clients/patients will augment the evidence on prevalence, the analysis of risk factors thus enhancing the HIV combination prevention measures in place. Taking stock of the international requirements (UNAIDS, ECDC) coordination and comparability of systems and indicators across countries will be increased. The evidence based sentinel surveillance system (RKI) will be implemented in 4 EU MS (RO, BG, SK, AT).The second generation surveillance, combining biological (new HIV/STI cases) and behavioural indicators will be conducted in 6 EU MS. Country samples vary (200–300) depending on local context. Narrative interviews will deepen insights into psychosocial and structural access barriers to health care and support. Reports will be disseminated to prevention and policy stake holders and findings integrated into direct prevention/care services for the clients groups.
